Publisher: U.S. Government Printing Office Washington, DC, 1976
Rubbing to covers. "After the Civil War, the United States intensified exploration of the western frontier to gain a measure of the vast lands and natural resources in the region now occupied by the Rocky Mountain States. As part of this effort, the U.S. Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories was formed and staffed under the leadership of geologist Ferdinand Vandiveer Hayden. Originally organized under the U.S. Public land Office in 1861, the Hayden Survey (as it was most often identified) was placed under the Secretary of the Interior in 1869 and later under the U.S. Geological Survey established in 1879. Its records, maps, and photographs were then transferred to the latter agency. "In commemorating the centennial of the founding of Yellowstone National park, the Geological Survey drew upon the items deposited by Hayden to describe the early exploration of the Yellowstone region and to recount the events that led to the establishment in 1872 of Yellowstone as the Nation’s first national park." 46 pages. . Publisher: Atlantic District Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, 1981
A Diamond Jubilee History 1906-1981: Atlantic District--Lutheran Missouri Synod. No author. NP: Atlantic District Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, 1981. Oversized hardcover. "The story of the first 75 years of the Atlantic District, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod traces Lutheranism back to 1664 when the first Lutherans were given legal recognition as a church by the British, who occupied New Amsterdam. From these seemingly insignificant beginnings, a Lutheran brotherhood later organized and has grown to include over 100 churches today. "This congregational brotherhood has ministered to and organized congregations for such diverse ethnic groups as the Chinese, Italians, Jews, Koreans, Persians, Blacks, and Hispanics, as well as the deaf, a very special group. "Dynamic early pastors such as Theodore Julius Brohm, Johann Heinrich Sieker, and Ernst Carl Louis Schulze forged the history of the Atlantic District, instituting change and giving leadership when needed. This history not only includes these early pastors, but also tells the founding of the individual churches in the Atlantic District. "These separate histories continue to show the determination and devotion of the pastors and church members who felt the need to gather for the cause of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The struggles and victories of these dedicated congregations are brought together in one historical book commemorating the Diamond Jubilee Anniversary of the Atlantic District, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod."
