Book. Book condition: Good. Fair. Hardcover Signed by both Author and Illustrator 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall INSCRIBED on half-title page: " With best regards to / E. Ruth Cook, / from C. A. Weslager / L. T. Alexander". Probable first edition. "A strangely fascinating story of a virtually unknown people - survivors of a primitive race in the very midst of modern civilization - is told in this book. In Delaware for generations two curious groups of persons, the Nanticokes of Indian River and the Moors of Cheswold, have lived close to but apart from their white and Negro neighbors. Practically nothing has been known of their origin, character, and intimate way of life, except that they maintained a group identity that did not sanction interference from outsiders. The veil is lifted for the first time in this volume. It proves conclusively that they are descendants of Algonkian-speaking Indians who inhabited the region before the European colonists drove mosts of the tribes into the western wildernesses.." Illustrated. 215 pages. Book is in GOOD condition. Dust jacket is in Fair condition; complete, but significant damage to edges. Quantity available: 1.
